Architecture of Wooden Houses of the Turn of the 19th – 20th Centuries in Nizhny Novgorod

The article is of a review-analytical nature and devoted to the display of architectural monuments of regional character on the example of wooden houses of Nizhny Novgorod and its suburbs, which are involved in the formation of a unique image of ancient Nizhny Novgorod. At present, we have to state that they are an disappearing type of residential architecture of the turn of the XIX and XX centuries. The examples given in the article demonstrate various stylistic trends in architecture with respect to time (eclecticism, stylization – neo-russian style, modern). Different types of décor in the form of a flat сarving and through-carved work are shown. Attention should be paid to the preservation of the remaining wooden houses, representing both regional and Russian historical and cultural heritage.
